Cyber ​​security is the safe and proper use of the Internet
and ICT (Information and Communication Technology).

Cyber ​​security is not just about keeping information safe and secure,

but also responsible for that details, respect for other people online.

What is Cyber safety :-

 It refers to the safe and responsible use of internet to ensure safety and security of personal information and not posing threat to anyone else’s information.

Safely Browsing the Web

Viruses and malware spread, easily and quickly through
websites/web browsing.
Through clicking over the links found on web pages or in email mistakenly our computer may be infected.
An infected computer can run slow, barrage us with pop-ups,
download other programs without our permission, or allow our
sensitive personal information to others.

Identity Protection :

Protection against theft of personal information over Cyber
Space without consent, usually for financial gain is known as
Identity Protection.                            

What is Identity Theft

Identity Theft is a type of fraud that involves using someone else’s identity to steal money or gain other benefits. Online identity theft refers to an act of stealing someone’s personal information such as name, login details etc. and then posing as that person online.

Many ways websites track you:-

(a) IP address :

IP address is a unique address of your device when you connect to the internet. It’s likely that your computer shares your IP address with the other networked devices in your house or office. From your IP address, a website can determine your rough geographical location.

(b) Cookies and tracking scripts :

Cookies, tracking documents, and pixels are various tools used to gain better understanding of users on your website. They are used to help identify, collect, and transfer data from a given site to software feeds for analytics and advertising services.

What are Cookies :-

 Cookies are small text files on your computer storing small  piece of information related to your online habits cookies can be:-
(i) first party cookies
(ii) third party cookies
(c) HTTP referrer
(d) super cookies
(e) user agent

What are Anonymous browsers:-

it allows users to view websites without revealing any personal information of the user like their IP address, machine type, location etc. an anonymous browsers lets users access websites anonymous.

Private browsing :-

A type of browsing wherein browser opens in incognito mode or through proxy or VPN, and does  not store cookies about your online activity, is called Private browsing.

Practices to ensure confidentiality of information:-

(1) use firewall wherever possible
(2) control browser settings to block tracking
(3) browse privately wherever possible
(4) be careful while posting on internet
(5) ensure safe sites while entering crucial information
(6) carefully handle emails
(7) do not give sensitive information on wireless networks
(8) avoid using public computers

What is Cyber-crime:-

Any criminal offense that is facilitated by, electronic communications or information systems, including any electronic device, computer, or the internet is referred to as cyber-crime.

What is Cyber Trolls:-

Derogatory messages or comments posted online targeting people are called cyber trolls.

What is Cyber Bullying:-

Harassing, demeaning, embarrassing, defaming or intimidating someone using modern technologies like internet, cell phones, instant messengers, social networks etc., called cyber bulling.

What is Cyber stalking:-

This is a form of online harassment where the victim is exposed to a large number of online messages and emails.
Usually, these following people know their victims and instead of turning to offline hunting, they use the internet to track them.

ans. Yes. It is always a good idea to use a nickname when we log on to the Internet. This will make it difficult for identity thieves to find us.


Q 2. When you shop you always check the security of the website before you enter personal and credit card information. Comment.

ans. Yes. We should always check that the site we are shopping on is secure. One way is to check if the URL starts with https://. Another way is to check the browser’s window to see if a closed padlock is visible.

Q 3. Is it all right to give your name, address and birth date when registering to use a website online ?

ans. No. It is never a good idea to give out your birth date on the internet. Most websites request this as an option. Protect yourself from identity thieves and ignore this request.
